This species is one of my new favorites. Tough and tasty fish. I do not have one of the best set ups for them to go out there all day and be super comfortable anchored up in the wind and waves, but on the nice days it’s such a joy to go out there and hammer these guys. It is always an option to have fun with both the striper and the tautog on the same day. A great fish for table fair.
Light tackle is the best way to go for these blocks of muscle. I found the conventional slow pitch set up is the most fun and puts the greatest bend in the rod.
The fall provides some amazing flat days where we can anchor up, catch tanks, and have a 5 fish a day limit. October 15th is the date to save.
August 1st is when it opens back up to three a day so this is the best month for an 8 hour mixed trip with striped bass and tautog!
